Fallout Fan-Made Films

One of my friends posted the free short film "Fallout: Fallout: Nuka Break" on her wall on Facebook. The free movie is a joy to watch, as the Fallout fan-made clip combines action and humor, something that is, in my opinion, hard to do in a post-holocaust setting.

The Effects of PC Video Games Withdrawal

No I'm not stopping. I've just been busy this week that I haven't really sat down and played a good round of Half-Life 2 (still have to finish Half-Life 2: Episode 2) or X: Beyond the Frontier (a PC space simulator game).

I posted this on my FB account:

Today I put a red ant inside our microwave oven.

[Guttural voice] "Little ant, today, I would like to play a game."

After 2 min, I opened the thing and found a tiny black smear. I smiled but then gaped in amazement - a red ant raced past and crawled underneath the oven.

Me: "Whoa. Déjà vu." My wife: "What did you just say?" "A red ant went into the oven, and then another scurried by that looked just like it." My wife: "Switch! Apoc!"

Nothing after the jump.

UPDATE: Half-Life (Unofficial) Movie: Beyond Black Mesa

[UPDATE 2: I added a short review of the film. You can find it after the jump.]

Just a few hours ago, I wrote about the impending release of "Beyond Black Mesa," a short fan film.

Beyond Black Mesa is a fan film inspired by the Half-Life series, a collection of first-person shooter games for the PC.

Just in case you're not a gamer, here's an eye-opener on what Half-Life is:

The 11-minute fan film after the jump.

Well, it's incredibly short, the Headcrab Zombies aren't Headcrab Zombies but hey, with a limited budget and a skeleton crew, they did exceptionally well; the pacing, the mise en scène, the music, the sound effects --- they all come together as a cohesive whole, creating a fan film worthy of the Half-Life label. So long as you don't expect District 9 quality from an 11-minute film made on a limited budget, Beyond Black Mesa will stun you.

Freeware Real-Time Strategy (RTS) League of Legends Philippines Goes into Open Beta Phase

The Philippines will finally have a League of Legends server tomorrow that's accessible to the general (Filipino) public. Garena has announced that on January 22, League of Legends Philippines will go into Open Beta. This is exciting news as this freeware real-time strategy (RTS) is the brainchild of Steve "Guinso" Feak and Steve “Pendragon” Mescon, two people who had a hand in creating Defense of the Ancients (DotA) All Stars, the highly popular Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne mod.

Free-to-play goodness coming your way

Half-Life (Unofficial) Movie: Beyond Black Mesa

Some months back, I wrote about two fan-made movies based on the popular Half-Life PC first-person shooter series. While the one made by the Purchase Brothers went off the grid some years back, the folks behind "Beyond Black Mesa" have persevered. They're going to post their short film tomorrow (Jan 21, 2011) on their site.

The teaser:
